Dr. Jacobs is a third generation dentist, practicing general, cosmetic and sleep dentistry since graduating from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry in 1983. He has gained a reputation as an early adopter of new technologies, and shares his expertise with national audiences including dentists, hygienists, physicians, and other health-care providers. He is a global leader in bacterial DNA testing for periodontal pathogens and the developer of Perio360, a bacterial based protocol for diagnosis and treatment planning for non-surgical periodontal therapy. He is the developer of the Reversible Trial Lip Repositioning Technique for Gummy Smiles, which was recently published in the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry, and the creator of Murano Smiles – a digitally based smile design application for cosmetic dentists. Dr. Jacobs also consults with dental teams in the areas of leadership and team building. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine, member of the Michigan Academy of Sleep Medicine, the Michigan and American Dental Associations, and a Fellow of the International Academy of Dental Facial Esthetics. He is a Founder of the Care Free Dental Clinic in Escanaba, MI, and serves as its dental director. He is also the Dental Director of Upper Peninsula Sleep Dentistry and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the AADSM.

Paula Jacobs, RN, attended Michigan State University and received her R.N. degree from Butterworth Hospital School of Nursing in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her nursing career includes experience in the surgical ICU, ER, home health, and as an instructor in clinical pharmacology. She and her husband Paul have operated the Jacobs Smile Center in Escanaba, Michigan since 1983. Paula has been involved in patient education and dental practice management for over 15 years. She is a co-founder and President of the Board of the Care Free Dental Clinic, Inc. She has serve as the President of the OSF St. Francis Hospital Foundation Board.
Dr. Jacobs is a graduate of the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and the University of Michigan, College of Engineering. Following dental school he completed a three year residency program in prosthodontics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prosthodontics is the specialty of dentistry focusing on replacement of missing teeth using the highest standards of care. Dr. Jacobs is formally trained in complex rehabilitation, digital dentistry, as well as implant surgery and restoration.
Dr. Jacobs served four years as a clinical professor at the University of Illinois— Chicago, School of Dentistry. He has published abstracts and articles in multiple international journals. Dr. Jacobs’ implant research earned him a place as a 2013 John J. Sharry Research Competition Finalist. At Harvard, he was President of his dental class and was recognized with the American College of Dentists Outstanding Student Leader Award and the Dr. Norman B. Nesbett Award for Excellence in Clinical Dentistry. At graduation, he was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society.
Dr. Jacobs currently lectures to other dentists and specialists on the topics of immediate implants (same-day implants), the relationship between gum health and overall systemic health, and gummy smile correction.
Dr. Jacobs is an active member of the American Dental Association, the American College of Prosthodontists, the Academy of Osseointegration, and the Chicago Dental Society. He volunteers at the Care Free Dental Clinic for underserved populations.
